LG opens the first in-house AI graduate school in Korea... 'Technology should be oriented towards people'

LG has launched South Korea's first in-house AI graduate school, offering master's and doctoral degrees to its employees.

LG has officially inaugurated South Korea's first corporate-run AI graduate school on the 4th of November, held at its K-Square campus in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul. This initiative comes after the Education Ministry granted LG approval in August of the previous year to operate a graduate school independently. Graduates of this in-house program will receive accredited master's and doctoral degrees in artificial intelligence, which signifies a significant commitment from LG towards advanced technology education within the company.

The inaugural batch of students comprises 17 employees from various subsidiaries of the LG Group, with 11 enrolled in the master's program and 6 in the doctoral program. The graduate school is designed to run for a minimum of one year for master's students and three years for doctoral candidates, providing full financial support for tuition from LG. The campus is located on the 8th floor of K-Square, and the faculty includes 24 adjunct professors along with one full-time instructor specializing in AI.

During the opening ceremony, LG's CEO, Koo Kwang-mo, presented the students with high-end LG Gram laptops equipped with the 'ExaOne' AI model. In his congratulatory letter, Koo emphasized that technology should not be an end in itself but rather a tool to bring smiles to people's faces, highlighting the importance of fostering imagination and resilience in the face of failure. This reflects LG's broader vision of ensuring that technological advancements align with human values and societal needs, indicating a significant step towards integrating AI education within the corporate structure in South Korea.
