Kenya: Ruto and Sakaja Confirm April Opening of 400-Bed Mutuini Level 5 Hospital in Nairobi
President William Ruto and Governor Johnson Sakaja confirmed that the Mutuini Hospital in Nairobi will officially open in April, expanding from 40 to 400 beds.
In a significant development for healthcare in Nairobi, President William Ruto and Governor Johnson Sakaja announced the opening of the newly expanded Mutuini Hospital, set for April. The facility has undergone a massive upgrade, increasing its bed capacity from 40 to 400, and now includes essential services such as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU). This enhancement is designed to provide advanced healthcare services closer to the Dagoretti South residents and alleviate pressure on nearby hospitals.
The investment into the hospital reflects the government's commitment to improving healthcare access in Kenya. President Ruto revealed that the national government will supply modern medical equipment valued at Sh400 million to ensure the hospital is fully functional upon opening. Notably, patients under the Social Health Authority (SHA) will benefit from free health services, marking a significant step towards equitable healthcare across the region.
The new 400-bed facility is particularly critical as it aims to reduce the burden on existing healthcare institutions such as Mbagathi Hospital and Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, which have been overwhelmed by patient numbers. The expansion of Mutuini Hospital is a strategic move that not only enhances healthcare capacity but also aims to improve the overall health outcomes for residents in Nairobi, addressing a longstanding issue of hospital congestion.
