READY FOR CRISIS ⟩ Apartment associations will have the opportunity to apply for funding to purchase generators

The Estonian government has launched a funding program of €780,000 for apartment associations to improve crisis preparedness through generator purchases.

The Estonian government is initiating a funding program worth approximately €780,000 aimed at enhancing the crisis preparedness of apartment buildings. The program will allow residential associations to apply for grants of up to €10,000 to install generators and backup power systems. This initiative demonstrates the government's commitment to support community resilience in the face of unexpected crises, and the announcement is expected to be detailed soon by the State Support Services Center (RTK).

The response to past crises has highlighted a significant interest among apartment associations regarding improved crisis readiness. In fact, in 2025, an earlier funding round closed prematurely due to high demand with all available funds utilized. As emphasized by SΓ€lli Hinrikus from the Crisis Awareness Department of the Rescue Board, there is a clear intention to continue supporting these associations to help them be better prepared for unexpected events. It is anticipated that the current funding round will open in the second quarter of the year.

Additionally, there are plans for another application round in 2026, specifically targeting the funding of mobile or stationary generators. This forward-looking approach indicates a proactive stance from the government to ensure that residential communities are equipped to handle future challenges effectively. The proposal for the funding round is currently being reviewed, underscoring the ongoing commitment of the government to bolster crisis management capabilities in Estonia.
