The Ukrainian government will support homeowners in purchasing generators
The Ukrainian government is providing interest-free loans totaling 500 million hryvnias for the purchase of generators to help homeowners and apartment building associations cope with energy shortages due to Russian attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that the government will make autonomous energy supply systems more financially accessible to associations of apartment building owners and single-family homeowners. A total of 500 million hryvnias (approximately 9.8 million euros) has been allocated for interest-free loans to assist with the purchase of generators. This initiative aims to help residents cope with the ongoing energy crisis exacerbated by Russian airstrikes that have severely damaged energy facilities in cities like Kyiv and Kharkiv.
The demand for generators remains high, as evidenced by the 20,000 applications already received from companies for subsidies related to the technical maintenance and repair of generators. The energy supply situation is critical, particularly in Kyiv, where it is unlikely that the heating of more than 1,100 apartment buildings can be restored before spring. Across Ukraine, power outages are lasting for hours, prompting urgent government and community action to support citizens during this difficult period.
As February marks four years since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Latvian Public Media, in collaboration with 'Ziedot.lv,' is holding its fifth charity campaign to support Ukraine from February 9 to 24. This initiative highlights the ongoing solidarity and willingness of both Ukrainian and Latvian communities to assist those affected by the conflict, particularly in addressing urgent needs such as heating and power supply.
