Investigation: 'Nemuno Ausra' funded by cash donations before the elections
An investigation has revealed that 17 individuals closely associated with the vice chairman of the 'Nemuno Ausra' party, Robert Puchovičius, funded the party through cash donations shortly before elections.
An investigation has found that the 'Nemuno Ausra' party received financial support from 17 individuals closely linked to its vice chairman, Robert Puchovičius. These supporters reportedly included family members, close friends, neighbors, childhood acquaintances, and business associates. A significant aspect of this funding involved these individuals making cash deposits into their accounts before transferring the same amounts to the party as donations, raising concerns about the transparency and legality of the financial practices surrounding the party’s fundraising efforts.
Robert Puchovičius himself contributed €24,000 to the party in 2024, and when including the amounts donated by those associated with him, the total sum neared €60,000. This revelation points to a potentially organized effort to circumvent financial regulations by relying on personal networks of support rather than open and competitive fundraising methods. Furthermore, the current Minister of Environment, Kęstutis Žuromskas, also engaged in similar practices, depositing €2,500 into his bank account and immediately donating that amount to 'Nemuno Ausra.'
Žuromskas has claimed that his contribution originated from personal savings; however, journalistic findings indicate that his account lacked sufficient funds prior to this cash deposit. This raises further questions about the source of his funds and the ethical implications of using personal finances for political contributions, especially in a tightly regulated environment. The investigation serves as a critical reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in political financing, particularly within parties that may be leveraging personal connections for financial gain.
