Democratic Party Nominates Park Chan-dae as Candidate for Incheon Mayor... Second Uncontested Nomination Following Woo Sang-ho
The Democratic Party of Korea has nominated Park Chan-dae as their uncontested candidate for the mayor of Incheon in the upcoming local elections.
On April 4, the Democratic Party of Korea announced the uncontested nomination of Park Chan-dae as their candidate for the mayoral race in Incheon for the June 3 local elections. During a press conference, Kim Yi-soo, the head of the party's nomination committee, highlighted Park's strong commitment to the party, noting his grassroots journey from being an ordinary member since 2009 to becoming a significant figure in the party. Park achieved a historical milestone by becoming the first Democratic Party member to win a parliamentary seat in Incheonβs Yeonsu District, an area previously regarded as a tough battleground for the party.
Kim further stated that Park, who is perceived as a pivotal player in the party's strategies, will take on a crucial role in upcoming legislative elections. He emphasized that Park is well-suited for the position, given his solid dedication and performance for the party, especially in the context of national security and party leadership during challenging political times. The presence of party leader Jeong Cheong-rae at the nomination event included a symbolic gesture of support, with the leader donning Park with a blue jumper, symbolizing his role as an essential asset in winning the upcoming elections.
In his speech, Park expressed a strong sense of responsibility, stating that being the second uncontested nominee for the party and the first in the metropolitan area holds significant weight. He views this role as a directive to inspire victory beginning from Incheon across the metropolitan area and eventually nationwide. This marks the second uncontested nomination by the Democratic Party following Woo Sang-hoβs selection for the Gangwon Province governorship, indicating a strategic approach by the party in this electoral cycle aimed at consolidating support in key regions.
