Worker dies after being buried under concrete at construction site
A worker in his 50s died after being buried under a pile of concrete at a public housing construction site in Suwon, South Korea.
On the afternoon of the 13th, at approximately 1:23 PM, a tragic accident occurred at a construction site for a publicly supported private rental housing project in Ingyedong, Suwon, where a worker in his 50s was buried and ultimately died under a pile of concrete. The victim, an irregular worker employed by a subcontractor, was reportedly crushing concrete debris with a drill when a portion of the pile collapsed, leading to this fatal incident. At the time of the accident, the worker was operating alone. It was a fellow worker who discovered the victim after lunch and subsequently called emergency services. Following this incident, local authorities have halted work at the construction site and are investigating potential violations of safety regulations under the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. The police are also examining whether safety protocols were adhered to by the construction site officials. This construction project, being managed by E-Land Construction, encompasses a land area of 6,404 square meters, involving three buildings with a total of 226 units, set for completion by the end of February next year, after having commenced in September 2024.
