Large-scale power outage in Ise City, Mie Prefecture, affecting 140,000 households; Kintetsu suspends operations

A large-scale power outage in Ise City, Mie Prefecture, has affected approximately 140,000 households, with Kintetsu train services also temporarily suspended.

On the morning of April 4th, around 9:10 AM, a significant power outage occurred in the southeastern region of Mie Prefecture, particularly impacting Ise City, Matsusaka City, and Shima City. According to Chubu Electric Power Grid, as of 10 AM, approximately 141,250 households were without power. The company is currently investigating the cause of the outage, but there is no forecast for when power will be restored.

The power outage has also disrupted Kintetsu train services, with operations suspended between Myōjō and Kashikojima stations, affecting local commuters and travelers. The interruption of train services raises concerns about transportation access in the region during the outage, potentially impacting emergency services and daily activities of residents.

In response to the crisis, the prefectural government established a disaster response headquarters at 10 AM to collect information and manage the situation. The swift response indicates the seriousness of the incident and underscores the importance of preparedness for such emergencies, especially in areas prone to natural disasters or infrastructure vulnerabilities.
