'The coalition remains': Ignacio Mier says alliance with PVEM and PT will continue despite electoral reform
Ignacio Mier, coordinator of the Morena party in the Senate, affirmed that the coalition with PVEM and PT will persist, even if they oppose the electoral reform proposed by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Ignacio Mier Velazco, the coordinator of the Morena party's Senate faction, communicated on Tuesday that the coalition with the Green Party (PVEM) and the Labor Party (PT) will continue, despite their expected dissent regarding the electoral reform that President Claudia Sheinbaum will present to Congress. He emphasized that the alliance remains solid, contrary to any speculation about potential discord following the reform discussions.
In a press interview, Mier Velazco acknowledged that while there are various reform projects on the table, he hopes that this particular electoral reform garners support, although he stressed that the coalition will endure regardless of the votes on this issue. He mentioned that there are other initiatives outside of the main reform plan that do not require the coalition parties to align but expressed optimism about the political strategy that would bring about unity for the critical electoral changes.
Mier further remarked that there are pending issues related to the so-called Plan C, which includes constitutional reforms like the one involving article 127 concerning pensions. He indicated that while discussions and political maneuvering continue, these matters are interconnected with the broader alliance's objectives and stability, thus reinforcing the coalition's commitment amidst political challenges.
