Ba-Vi will have a single fan after recommendation from the Public Ministry of Bahia
The upcoming Bahia vs. Vitória match will only allow fans of Bahia in attendance, following a recommendation for safety from the Public Ministry of Bahia.
The Bahia vs. Vitória match for the title of this year's Campeonato Baiano will take place with a single fan rule, allowing only Bahia fans to attend. This decision was made after a recommendation from the Public Ministry of Bahia (MP-BA), which was reported by TV Bahia. On Monday, Vitória had submitted a request for mixed attendance, but the Bahia Football Federation decided to follow the MP-BA’s safety guidelines.
The match is scheduled for Saturday at Arena Fonte Nova, where the home advantage belongs to Bahia. This policy, in effect since 2018, is aimed at preventing violence among rival fans, especially considering the series of violent incidents in the past. One significant incident occurred on April 9, 2017, when violence between fans resulted in multiple detentions and a death.
In response to the decision, Vitória indicated they had not formally been notified but stated they would not pursue an appeal. The ongoing enforcement of this policy reflects a broader initiative by sports authorities and safety officials to cultivate a safer environment at football matches in Brazil, especially in the context of previous violent encounters.
