Ecuador, USA, and Europol dismantle the 'Los Lobos' network that sent cocaine to Europe
Authorities from Ecuador, in collaboration with the U.S. and Europol, dismantled a major international drug trafficking network linked to the 'Los Lobos' cartel.
Ecuadorian authorities, in conjunction with U.S. agencies and Europol, have successfully dismantled an international drug trafficking network associated with the 'Los Lobos' cartel. This operation, which started in January 2025, received significant support from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and was executed across several provinces in Ecuador, including Guayas, El Oro, and Loja. The U.S. Embassy announced on social media that 16 suspects were arrested, including a high-value target, highlighting the scale of this drug operation.
The investigation revealed that this criminal organization was heavily involved in the large-scale trafficking of cocaine to Europe, cleverly disguising its illicit activities by using fruit exporting companies as a front. Authorities seized substantial amounts of cocaine, along with over $800,000 in cash, indicating a significant flow of profits managed by the network. Moreover, the operation uncovered a sophisticated money laundering and corruption scheme that facilitated the cartel's operations.
This breakthrough not only marks a significant achievement in combating drug trafficking but also underscores the increasing collaboration between Ecuadorian, American, and European authorities in addressing international crime. By disrupting such networks, stakeholders aim to reduce the availability of cocaine in Europe and dismantle the financial underpinnings of drug cartel activities, sending a strong message against organized crime.
