He ran over, killed, and fled: a British rapper was sentenced for the death of a young student

British rapper Ghetts was sentenced to 12 years in prison for hitting and killing a student while driving under the influence.

Justin Clarke-Samuel, better known as Ghetts, a prominent figure in the British grime music scene, has received a 12-year prison sentence after being found guilty of killing 20-year-old student Yubin Tamang in a hit-and-run incident. The Old Bailey, the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, handed down the sentence after Ghetts admitted to the charges stemming from the incident that occurred on October 18, 2025. At the time of the accident, he was reportedly driving over the speed limit and under the influence of alcohol, with speeds exceeding 108 kilometers per hour when he struck Tamang shortly after 11:30 p.m.

During the sentencing, Judge Mark Lucraft described the events as "shocking" but also acknowledged Ghetts' "genuine remorse" for his actions. Along with the 12-year sentence, Ghetts was also given an additional 15 months for dangerous driving, with both sentences set to run concurrently. Furthermore, the judge imposed a 17-year driving ban on Ghetts, reflecting the severity of the circumstances surrounding the case.

This incident not only highlights the dangers of reckless driving and substance abuse but also raises questions about accountability, even for public figures like Ghetts, who had previously collaborated with notable artists. The ruling serves as a reminder of the consequences of such actions and their far-reaching impacts on the lives of victims and their families.
