Petroamazonas, Ecuador’s state-run oil company, has committed to reducing the economic damage caused by illegal drilling by at least 15%. In collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior, a specific inter-institutional cooperation agreement was signed to strengthen security and control actions on the National Network of Pipelines, Oil Pipelines, and Gas Pipelines. This agreement aims to provide police operational support, ensuring the integrity of hydrocarbon facilities and the continued supply of fuels nationwide.

The accord entails a comprehensive strategy that includes technical and financial support to the Hydrocarbon Crimes Investigation Unit (UIDH) of the National Police over the next four years. The collaboration will enhance specialized investigations into crimes against the pipeline network, coordinate intelligence operations, and provide substantial backing for the judicial process. The effort signifies a significant investment of $10 million dedicated to improving police capabilities in intelligence and technology, aiming to curb the rampant illegal drilling that poses threats to both the environment and the economy.
