FG’s new initiative will tackle education challenges – UBEC
The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the HOPE for Quality Basic Education initiative to address education challenges, including the issue of over 10 million out-of-school children.
The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has announced a new Federal Government initiative named HOPE for Quality Basic Education, aimed at addressing various challenges within Nigeria's educational system. During a sensitization workshop held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, UBEC Executive Secretary Dr Aisha Garba highlighted the critical state of Nigeria's education, which is marked by over 10 million out-of-school children and overcrowded classrooms. This initiative seeks to provide a structured approach to tackle these pressing issues by focusing on the needs of the South South and South East regions.
Dr Garba emphasized that successful implementation of the HOPE initiative will depend on transparency, accountability, and collaboration among all stakeholders involved. She pointed out that the current situation in Nigeria’s educational landscape is dire, with significant disparities in resources leading to inequity in access to education. The initiative is seen as a pivotal point for transforming basic education across the nation, with hopes that it can mobilize resources and engage communities to contribute to the educational framework.
The call for stakeholders' engagement signifies the government's recognition of the need for a multi-faceted approach to improve basic education. The sensitization workshop aimed to bring together various actors in the education sector to align efforts and share strategies that can enhance educational outcomes for millions of children. As the government rolls out this initiative, the focus will be on creating sustainable solutions that address the root causes of educational challenges in Nigeria.
