Logistics Companies' Results Show That Europe Is in Stagnation
The financial results of Kuehne + Nagel reveal a sluggish recovery in European logistics, with a marked decline in profit despite a rise in revenues for 2025.
Recent financial results from logistics company Kuehne + Nagel indicate a troubling trend for the European economy, showing a stagnation in growth despite a slight increase in revenues. In 2025, the company's revenues rose by 3% compared to 2024, totaling 24.48 billion Swiss francs. However, key profit indicators were less favorable, with EBITDA down by 10% to 2.29 billion francs, and EBIT down by 22%, resulting in a profit decrease to 0.93 billion francs. Furthermore, while the free cash flow experienced a significant uptick of 48% to 0.92 billion francs, the broader trend highlights underlying economic challenges.
The last quarter of the previous year was particularly grim for Kuehne + Nagel, featuring a 7% drop in revenues to 5.95 billion francs, with EBITDA dropping by 26%, EBIT decreasing by 46%, and profit falling by 44% to 164 million francs. These figures suggest a growing concern over the sustainability of profit margins within the logistics sector as operational costs rise and economic conditions weaken. The logistics group acknowledged the difficulties faced in the last year and pointed to increased competition and escalating costs as significant factors.
Additionally, the landscape for logistics has been further complicated by geopolitical tensions, particularly following military actions by the USA and Israel against Iran, which have led to the elimination of maritime insurance and increasing fuel prices. Despite the challenges, Kuehne + Nagel claims to have leveraged its position as a logistics partner for global cloud and server infrastructure providers, gaining a substantial share in the air logistics market, which has helped to sustain its leading role in both maritime and air transport markets.
