Mayor Pabel Muñoz applies four adjustments to the waste collection fee and offers compensation starting in April
Mayor Pabel Muñoz of Quito announced four modifications to the waste collection fee aimed at reducing community discontent, with an automatic compensation plan set to begin in April for affected residents.
Pabel Muñoz, the mayor of Quito, presented four key changes to the city's waste collection fee during an event at the Contemporary Art Center. He emphasized that these modifications are intended to alleviate any dissatisfaction among residents regarding waste management costs. One noteworthy adjustment is the reduction of shared meters for households that share a meter, which aims to ensure that fees reflect actual consumption, leading to more equitable billing practices, especially for shared properties.
Moreover, the mayor noted that the total fee would now be allocated according to overall consumption and evenly divided among all properties connected to the waste collection system. This recalibration is designed to provide a noticeable decrease in waste management bills for every individual user, thereby fostering a sense of fairness within the community.
In a further commitment to support residents, starting in April, automatic compensation will be provided to those most adversely affected by these fees. The municipality had previously identified that around 44% of complaints stemmed from this issue as of mid-February, and the new compensation measures will extend to all citizens who have lodged complaints, highlighting the mayor's responsiveness to community concerns.
