Arabia Brings Back an Old Favorite
Arabia, in collaboration with Kesko, is reintroducing the beloved Pomona series with redesigned jars and new accompanying pieces.
Arabia, a renowned Finnish ceramics brand, has announced the return of its cherished Pomona series in partnership with Kesko. The revamped collection will feature reimagined jars along with small plates and two sizes of bowls and cups, maintaining the iconic fruit and berry motifs originally created by beloved artist Raija Uosikkinen. This nostalgic series, first popular for its jam jars, is being reissued with contemporary improvements aiming to appeal to today's consumers.
The new Pomona series has been enhanced with more durable materials and modernized shapes and sizes to align with current lifestyles. Additionally, the new designs include tightly fitted lids and a durable under-glaze pattern that can withstand dishwashing, addressing a common concern among collectors of the original series, whose illustrations often faded or deteriorated over time due to washing. This thoughtful approach not only enhances usability but preserves the artistic legacy of the series while adapting it to contemporary needs.
Raija Uosikkinen, who passed away in 2004, was among the most prolific pattern designers in Arabia's history, and her work continues to resonate with fans of Finnish design. The revival of the Pomona series not only acknowledges the nostalgia associated with earlier designs but also demonstrates Arabia's commitment to sustainability and innovation in ceramic design, ensuring that the beloved motifs will remain a staple in Finnish homes.
