Water bill to increase by 4.8% in Goiás
The water tariff in Goiás will increase by 4.8% starting in April, affecting all consumer categories as announced by the region's regulatory agency.
A 4.8% increase in the water tariff for all categories of consumers in Goiás, Brazil, will take effect in April. This decision was implemented by the Agência Goiana de Regulação, Controle e Fiscalização de Serviços Públicos (AGR) and announced in the official gazette. The hike will apply to residential, public, commercial, and industrial users across the 223 municipalities served by Saneago, the water supply company.
The adjustment aims to compensate for inflation-related losses incurred by the company in the previous year, which is deemed essential for maintaining the economic and financial balance of water services in the region. By restoring tariff levels, the AGR and Saneago seek to ensure that operations remain sustainable despite economic pressures that have affected cost structures over the past year.
The regulation specifies new minimum charges for different consumer categories, with particular attention given to vulnerable populations through a reduced rate for the Residential Social category. This regulatory measure reflects ongoing efforts to ensure affordable access to water while addressing the financial necessities of service provision and the quality of infrastructure in Goiás.
