Skåne residents urged to conserve water

Due to extremely low water levels in Vombsjön, residents of Skåne are being urged to conserve drinking water.

Water levels in Vombsjön, a critical water source for Skåne alongside Bolmen in Småland, have reached record lows not seen since measurements began in 1969. In response to this alarming situation, Sydvatten has released a statement urging both residents and businesses in western Skåne to conserve drinking water. This request comes after a winter season characterized by significantly low precipitation, resulting in dwindling water supplies.

Typically, water levels in lakes and rivers peak in February, but this year has proven to be an exception, with low levels persisting due to insufficient rainfall throughout the winter and early spring of 2025. Furthermore, the groundwater levels in the region are also reported to be dangerously low, exacerbating the water scarcity issues faced by the local community.

The situation highlights the importance of responsible water management in Skåne as authorities work to avert a potential crisis. The community is being made aware of the severity of the situation, as continued low water levels could impact both domestic supply and local industries relying on water resources. The call to action seeks to promote awareness and foster conservation habits among the population in the hopes of improving the water situation in the coming months.
