State main highways will be inspected less frequently in winter to improve maintenance of smaller roads
Latvia's road maintenance authority will reduce the inspection frequency for main highways during the winter season to allocate resources more efficiently towards smaller roads.
The Latvian State Roads (LVC) has announced changes to its winter maintenance regulations, specifically regarding the inspection frequency of major highways (Class A roads). Starting from October 15 and lasting until April 15, inspections of Class A highways will be conducted at least once a week instead of the previous requirement of twice a week. This adjustment is based on the observation that most winter weather conditions, particularly in the months of October, November, March, and April, do not significantly affect road conditions, thereby making the existing inspection frequency an inefficient use of resources. The Ministry of Transport has indicated that this change could lead to annual savings of approximately 40,000 euros.
