Young men bought the Turku Cathedral choir organ at an auction for 140 euros: 'It was a bargain'
Two students purchased a choir organ from Turku Cathedral at an online auction for just 140 euros, calling it a steal.
In an unexpected twist, two students from Helsinki have successfully bid on a choir organ from the Turku Cathedral during an online auction, securing it for just 140 euros. The offer was made by Otto Kalsta, 23, and Tuomas Ihamuotila, 25, who did not initially plan to purchase the organ but found themselves captivated by the auction. Ihamuotila, who already owns a set of electric organs from the 1980s acquired from a recycling center, remarked on how the price was a major motivating factor in their decision to bid.
The two friends were at home when Ihamuotila noticed that the highest bid was 120 euros close to the auction's end. After a brief discussion, they decided to raise their offer, ultimately winning the organ, highlighting the spontaneity of their decision-making. Ihamuotila characterized it as a remarkable opportunity, encouraged by his friend who urged him to go for it.
It's important to note that the instrument purchased is not the grand organ located at the Turku Cathedral's organ loft but a smaller choir organ, which adds an interesting layer to the story. As they celebrate their successful acquisition, the duo's story reflects not just a personal triumph but an example of how modern online auction platforms can lead to unexpected and whimsical purchases among young people in Finland.
