PRF catches car with 18 goats piled up in Caruaru
Federal Highway Police in Brazil discovered 18 goats piled inside a locked vehicle, seven of which died due to suffocation.
The Federal Highway Police (PRF) made a shocking discovery in Caruaru, Pernambuco, when they found a vehicle parked with 18 goats crammed inside. The incident occurred on BR-104 early Tuesday morning, where PRF patrol units noticed the unattended car on the roadside. Upon investigation, they found the vehicle unlocked and opened it, revealing the overcrowded goats that were severely lacking ventilation. Tragically, seven of the goats had lost their lives due to suffocation and the overall poor conditions they were in.
Following the rescue, the surviving goats were taken to the PRF’s Caruaru station, where they were provided with water and food to stabilize their condition. The authorities have plans to transfer the animals to the Agency for Agricultural Defense and Regulation (Adagro) for further care and inspection. The PRF is also investigating the case to trace the owner of the vehicle and understand the circumstances that led to the apparent mistreatment of the animals, emphasizing the seriousness of animal welfare laws in Brazil.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of animal welfare and transportation regulations in Brazil, raising questions about enforcement and the responsibilities of vehicle owners. Such cases are pivotal in drawing attention to the need for stricter regulations regarding the transportation of livestock, as they can lead to severe consequences, including loss of life. The involvement of local law enforcement further underscores the collaborative efforts required to tackle issues of animal abuse and ensure responsible ownership and handling of livestock in the country.
