On Saturday, the Federal Highway Police (PRF) rescued a total of 132 wild birds that were being sold illegally along the BR 407 in Petrolina, located in the Sertão region of Pernambuco. The rescued birds were found in cages and lacked the necessary environmental documentation required for their breeding or sale. This action was part of Operation Sentinela, aimed at combating various crimes linked to environmental devastation in the region.

Alongside the rescue of the birds, the PRF issued Circumstantial Occurrence Terms (TCOs) against the individuals responsible for the illegal activity. The operation not only focused on rescuing the birds but also involved the seizure of various equipment used in capturing the wildlife. This highlights the ongoing issue of wildlife trafficking and illegal commerce that threatens biodiversity in Brazil.

The rescued birds will be sent to the relevant environmental authorities for rehabilitation and subsequent return to their natural habitat.
