A truck caught fire following a collision with another truck on the Dom Pedro I Highway in Campinas, leading to significant traffic disruptions.
In the early hours of Tuesday, a serious incident occurred on the Dom Pedro I Highway in Campinas, Brazilian state of São Paulo, when a truck caught fire after crashing into another truck. The collision happened near kilometer 130, prompting a rapid response from emergency services. One individual was reported injured and was transported to a local urgent care facility, according to the Rota das Bandeiras, the concession responsible for that highway stretch.
The accident involved two trucks traveling in the direction of Jacareí when the first vehicle rear-ended the second. Following the impact, flames erupted, and traffic was heavily affected as both trucks occupied a lane on the busy highway. Rota das Bandeiras stated that the fire was under control by 6:27 AM, thanks to the prompt actions of the firefighters. However, by that time, all lanes were blocked off for emergency response, causing a significant build-up of traffic.
By approximately 7:30 AM, the two trucks remained on the highway, impacting local commuters with over 2 kilometers of traffic delays. The authorities have indicated that one of the trucks was carrying construction materials, specifically mortar, which might have contributed to the severity of the fire. This incident highlights the dangers associated with heavy vehicular traffic on major highways and the importance of rapid emergency response to such accidents.
