Operation targets fraud in Jaé; gang created faces using artificial intelligence to register benefits, says police

The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police launched an operation against a fraudulent scheme involving the Jaé electronic ticketing system, estimating losses over R$ 64,000.

On Tuesday, the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police initiated an operation aimed at dismantling a fraudulent scheme in the Jaé electronic ticketing system used for municipal transport. This operation arose from investigations that revealed a group of criminals had deployed artificial intelligence tools to create fictional faces to register for free travel benefits, leading to significant financial losses estimated at over R$ 64,000.

The police took action after the CBD Bilhete Digital, the company responsible for overseeing the registration of these benefits and issuing the corresponding cards, detected irregularities within the system. They promptly notified the authorities, triggering further investigations. The police identified four key suspects involved in the scam: André Luís da Silva, Arthur de Souza Oliveira, Daniel dos Santos Rodrigues, and Gabriella Cristina Vieira Barbosa dos Santos, who were in supervisory and customer service roles.

With the operational phase of the investigation launched, law enforcement agents executed search warrants against the identified suspects. The gathered evidence suggests that these individuals facilitated the validation of senior citizen benefit cards created through artificial intelligence, indicating a breach of trust and abuse of their positions at Ace, the outsourcing company. This case highlights the increasing sophistication of fraud tactics utilizing modern technology, urging for heightened security measures within digital registration systems.
