Vikerraadio e-dictation can be prepared for by doing the preliminary exercise

Vikerraadio invites listeners to prepare for the upcoming e-dictation event by participating in a preliminary exercise available on their website.

Vikerraadio is celebrating the Day of the Estonian Language with an e-dictation event on March 13. To help participants prepare, a preliminary exercise has been made available, which was created based on sentences submitted by listeners. This exercise not only helps participants get ready for the e-dictation but also allows them to assess their understanding of correct Estonian grammar and writing conventions.

The organizers called on the public to send in texts, which were then used to craft the preliminary exercise by Maire Raadik, a senior language adviser at the Estonian Language Institute and a member of the e-dictation team. The preliminary exercise is designed to help participants hone their skills in various aspects of writing, including spelling, compound and separate writing, capitalization rules, and punctuation. People who complete the exercise can immediately check their answers on the same website, providing instant feedback on their performance.

Maire Raadik emphasized that the e-dictation offers an excellent opportunity for individuals to gauge their proficiency in these four areas. Many participants seem to have considered the challenge, incorporating some difficult linguistic elements into their sentences. Overall, this initiative not only serves to promote the Estonian language but also encourages engagement and learning among its speakers, reinforcing the importance of language skills in society.
