Zelenskyy believes US strike on Iran will not affect talks with Russia, they will take place on 5–6 March
President Zelenskyy is confident that US military actions against Iran will not interfere with planned negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed confidence that the recent US military strike on Iran will not hinder upcoming negotiations with Russia. He stated that the next trilateral talks, involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States, are still scheduled for March 5 or 6. Zelenskyy noted that despite the geopolitical tensions, the dialogue remains vital, and no party has postponed the meeting despite the unfolding events in the Middle East.
During an interview, Zelenskyy mentioned his preference for the talks to take place in Geneva or other European cities rather than Abu Dhabi, emphasizing that since Ukraine is in the midst of a war on its continent, a European setting is more appropriate. He suggested that if Russia desires a neutral location, options like Austria, Vatican City, or Türkiye could be considered. Furthermore, Zelenskyy hinted at hopes for renewed discussions concerning prisoner exchanges during these negotiations, highlighting ongoing humanitarian concerns amid the conflict.
The backdrop of these planned talks includes heightened tensions in global politics, particularly in relation to the United States' involvement in the Middle East. Zelenskyy’s reassurances reflect not only his administration's ongoing focus on diplomacy but also the need to maintain international alliances despite external pressures and conflicts in other regions. The outcome of these discussions could have significant implications for Ukraine's strategy and relations with both Russia and Western allies as the war continues to evolve.
