Abuja airport registers 10,000 Go Cashless cards
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has registered over 10,000 'Go Cashless' cards following the nationwide implementation of a cashless toll policy.
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has seen a significant uptake in the registration of 'Go Cashless' cards, with airport manager Mr. Ahmed Danjuma reporting over 10,000 registrations since the policy's introduction. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and transparency of toll collection, eliminating the handling of cash at toll gates as part of a broader national reform by the Nigerian government.
Danjuma noted that while the registration for these cards commenced in August 2025, many users delayed their enrollment despite efforts to educate the public about the new system. The transition to a cashless system began in earnest on March 1 as part of a government directive to modernize the toll collection process, promoting a more streamlined experience for travelers at the airport.
The implementation of this policy has faced some initial challenges, including temporary traffic congestion experienced at the toll gates. However, Danjuma emphasized that the continuation of these measures is vital for realizing the governmentβs goals of transparency and improved revenue management. The overall reception to the 'Go Cashless' cards reflects a growing acceptance of digital payment systems among travelers in Nigeria, signaling a shift towards more modern practices in financial transactions at transportation hubs.
