The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced on Friday the official pick-up points for its new Go-Cashless cards, which are set to facilitate a shift towards a cashless system in the aviation sector. This announcement comes ahead of a key deadline on March 1, underscoring FAAN's commitment to enhancing financial operations and service delivery within the airports. Public engagement will be facilitated through the availability of these cards at all FAAN commercial offices and access gates across the country, effective immediately. Additionally, designated branches of Fidelity Bank Plc will provide the cards starting from March 16 for further outreach.

The initiative aligns with a broader Federal Government directive that mandates all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to move towards a cashless economy. FAAN's Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Henry Agbebire, emphasized the expected benefits of this transition, which include increased transparency, reduction of revenue leakages, and improved traceability of transactions across government financial operations. This is seen as a vital step in modernizing Nigeria's financial interactions, particularly in the aviation sector, which has been significantly impacted by cash handling issues.

Mr. Agbebire appealed to the public for their understanding and cooperation during the transition period, highlighting FAAN's dedication to full compliance with the cashless policy. As the country moves forward with implementing cashless strategies, the successful uptake of the Go-Cashless cards will be crucial in refining how financial transactions are conducted at airports, thereby improving overall service efficiency and accountability in the aviation industry.
