In December 2024, a Latvian national responded to a call from a contact in Russia to provide financial assistance for drone suppression devices for Russian soldiers stationed in Ukraine. Acknowledging the illegality of this action and the impossibility of transferring money from a Latvian bank to a Russian bank, the accused contacted a friend in Belarus, asking them to carry out the transfer without disclosing the true purpose of the payment. The friend agreed to make the transfer to a person in Russia as per the accused's instructions.

The accused facilitated support to the armed forces of the aggressor state through intermediaries, amounting to approximately 42.86 euros (157 Belarusian rubles). This case highlights the legal consequences for individuals in Latvia who engage in activities that could be perceived as supporting military efforts against Ukraine, reflecting the serious stance Latvian authorities are taking against such actions as they aim to uphold national and international laws.

The accused was detained on December 2nd of last year, and is currently held in custody as the legal proceedings unfold.
