Minor student committed suicide, was troubled by harassment from local miscreant
A minor girl in a village in Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh, reportedly committed suicide due to prolonged harassment from a local youth, leading to heightened tensions in the area.
In a tragic incident in the village of Andwa, located in the Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh, a minor girl's suspected suicide has sparked significant unrest among the local community. Family members have alleged that a young man from the village had been harassing their daughter for several months, which reportedly led her to take her own life. The family's claims indicate a pattern of harassment including stalking and inappropriate behavior, which deeply affected the girl's mental state.
According to the victim's brother, the accused, identified as Aman Pal, persistently followed his sister on her way to coaching classes and school, often engaging in intimidating behavior such as blocking her path with his motorcycle. The brother further alleged that on one occasion, the accused forcefully took his sister somewhere, contributing to her feelings of distress and fear. The family believes that the continuous mental pressure and fear of social stigma from these incidents culminated in the girl's tragic decision to end her life.
Following her death, anger erupted within the community, particularly when the girl's body was returned home after the post-mortem examination. Relatives and villagers expressed their outrage, criticizing the police for their lack of urgency in addressing the harassment claims. In light of the escalating situation, the police eventually registered a case based on the family's complaint. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Pandey stated that the girl attempted suicide at home, and after completing the necessary legal procedures, the body was handed over to her family for mourning and burial.
