In a tragic incident in the Moth police area of Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh, a 16 to 17-year-old girl is believed to have committed suicide after being allegedly assaulted by her neighbor, named Viru alias Virendra. This heart-wrenching case has caused a stir in the local community, particularly in light of the perceived failure of the nearby authorities to protect vulnerable individuals. The victim, a ninth-grade student, was left home alone when the crime occurred, as her mother had gone to visit relatives and her father was away for work. The lack of adult supervision created a vulnerable situation that the neighbor exploited.

The incident unfolded on February 25 when the victim's mother was away, leaving her alone in the house along with some siblings who had gone to school. It is reported that Viru forcibly entered the house by unlocking the door and attempted to assault her. The victim resisted and screamed for help, which prompted her brother’s return home from school. However, by the time he arrived, the assailant had fled through the roof after being startled by the boy’s arrival, leaving the victim traumatized and in despair.

Following the incident, the victim's aunt, who returned from the fields, informed the police. The authorities acted quickly, arresting the suspect and sending the victim’s body for an autopsy. This incident highlights the urgent need for enhancing the safety of minors in such communities and underlines the importance of creating a supportive environment for victims of sexual assault, ensuring their voices are heard, and providing them with the necessary support to cope with traumatic experiences.
