The Vidzeme District Court is scheduled to review a criminal case today involving Edvīns Birkhāns, who is accused of murdering two individuals by burning one of them and causing a fire in the Līgatne area of Cēsis County. The case stems from an investigation that concluded last year, concerning a fire that occurred on March 28, 2025. Following the firefighting efforts, the remains of a man and a woman were discovered in the second floor of the building that had been engulfed in flames. The deceased man was born in 1975, while the woman was born in 1970.
