150,000 Gathered for the K-League Opening Round... Record-Breaking Attendance

The opening round of the 2026 K-League season set a new record with over 150,000 attendees, surpassing the previous record by nearly 20,000.

The 2026 season of the K-League kicked off to unprecedented enthusiasm, with a total of 152,645 fans attending the opening round of 14 matches held from March 28 to April 2. This figure not only represents a remarkable attendance but also breaks the previous record set in 2024, which had just over 132,000 attendees. The growth in interest is shared across both K-League 1 and K-League 2, underlining the league's increasing popularity.

The surge in attendance, particularly in K-League 2, is striking, with 74,765 fans showing up for 8 matches—an increase of nearly 98% compared to the previous year’s figures. New teams including Yongin FC, Gimhae FC, and Paju Frontier contributed to this rise as the league expanded to 17 teams. Notably, Gimhae and Yongin managed to draw impressive crowds of 7,407 and 10,220 at their respective home openers, while a thrilling opening match featuring Suwon Samsung against Seoul E-Land FC set a record for the highest attendance in a single K-League 2 game, drawing 24,071 fans.

K-League 1 also recorded robust attendance, with Incheon United's home game against FC Seoul boasting a sold-out crowd of 18,108 fans. This resurgence in attendance across both leagues indicates a revitalized interest in professional football within Korea, reflecting a potential shift in the cultural landscape towards supporting local sports and teams, thus suggesting promising prospects for the overall growth of the K-League. Engagement from fans appears to be on the rise, setting an optimistic tone for the ongoing season.
