"Spring, the Miracle We Know Best"... Gwanghwamun Signboard Spring Edition Gets a Makeover
The Gwanghwamun Signboard has been revamped for spring with the phrase "Spring, the Miracle We Know Best," inspired by a work from poet Kim So-yeon.
This spring, the Gwanghwamun Signboard has adopted the phrase "Spring, the Miracle We Know Best" as its new message. This update, revealed by Kyobo Life on the 3rd, is inspired by a collection of essays by poet Kim So-yeon, specifically from her book 'One-Character Dictionary'. The intent behind this message is to remind us that miracles are not far away but exist in the beauty of our everyday lives, especially evident in the blossoming of flowers and renewal of life during spring.
Kyobo Life emphasized that the design for this edition incorporates a modern reinterpretation of traditional Korean folk art. The background features a vibrant green that symbolizes the season, while elements such as a robust tree trunk, flowers, and birds represent the vitality of life in spring. This design aims to showcase Korean aesthetics to the foreign tourists frequenting the Gwanghwamun area, thereby promoting cultural appreciation and connection.
Poet Kim So-yeon made her literary debut in the winter issue of 'Contemporary Poetry' in 1993 and has since received various accolades, including the 10th Noksaek Literary Award for her poem 'Fortunate Things' and the 57th Modern Literature Award for her works 'Okinawa, Tunisia, Francis Ham'. The spring edition will be displayed at locations including the Gwanghwamun Kyobo Life Building and Gangnam Kyobo Tower until the end of May.
