‘The house is uninhabitable, it needs to be rebuilt’: family lost their home after a truck collision in Flor de Bastión

A family in Flor de Bastión, Ecuador, lost their home and one person died when a truck lost control and crashed into their house.

On February 27, a truck carrying soft drinks veered off course and crashed into a home in the Flor de Bastión neighborhood, resulting in the death of one person and leaving eight family members homeless. The tragedy struck while Ricardo Crespín and his ex-wife, María Franco, were celebrating their daughter's birthday away from home, only to receive the devastating news that their house had been struck by a runaway truck.

Upon returning to the scene, Crespín and Franco were met with destruction, as significant portions of their home had been demolished due to the impact. According to local witnesses, the truck had been parked on a slope nearby while workers were unloading merchandise from it at a nearby grocery store. Security cameras captured the moment when the vehicle lost control and rolled down the slope, leading to the unfortunate accident that would forever change the lives of the affected family.

This incident sheds light on the precariousness of road safety in the area and the potential dangers posed by large vehicles parked on inclines. While the immediate impact is heart-wrenching for the family who lost their home, it also raises broader questions about regulations regarding parking and vehicle control, and the consequences of negligence that can lead to tragic outcomes in such communities.
