Rains in Bahia: More than 25 cities in the interior declare a state of emergency

Heavy rains in Bahia have prompted 28 cities to declare a state of emergency due to severe flooding and damages.

The Superintendency for Protection and Civil Defense (Sudec) of Bahia has reported that 28 cities in the state are currently in a state of emergency as a result of recent heavy rains. Notably affected municipalities include Alagoinhas, Lauro de Freitas, Cícero Dantas, Irecê, and Porto Seguro. The rains have led to significant flooding, with some areas reporting the formation of large craters, such as one in Vitória da Conquista. Sudec is constantly updating information about the situation as it evolves.

Efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage caused by the flooding. Sudec is conducting surveys to quantify the losses and impact on infrastructure and local communities. This assessment is crucial for determining the level of assistance required for recovery, both for individuals affected and for public services that may be disrupted by the acute weather conditions.

The situation highlights the vulnerability of certain regions in Bahia to severe weather events, which can lead to emergency situations. The affected municipalities are working to restore normalcy and provide support to the communities, as the rains continue to pose a risk of further flooding and related disasters. The state's response will be critical in the coming days to mitigate the impacts of this climatic event and support recovery efforts.
