A strict warning from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to thousands of Finns
The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a serious warning to approximately 3,000 Finns currently in the Middle East, highlighting security concerns especially in the UAE.
The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong warning to around 3,000 Finnish citizens who are currently residing in various Middle Eastern countries. According to the ministry's assessment, the majority of these individuals are situated in the United Arab Emirates, with at least 2,050 Finns reported to be in the country. The warning underscores the need for these citizens to be aware of the increasingly unstable security situation in the region, particularly in popular tourist areas like Dubai and the capital, Abu Dhabi.
The Ministry's communication indicates that, while there is a significant Finnish presence in the UAE, other countries in the Middle East also have Finnish nationals, such as Qatar, Israel, and Saudi Arabia. The ministry has provided a detailed list of the Finnish citizens' distribution across different countries, which highlights the various regions where Finns are residing, some of which present security risks. This situation necessitates immediate attention and precautionary measures for traveling Finns.
In light of this warning, the Finnish government advises its citizens abroad to stay informed about the local security situation and consider their safety when making travel decisions. As the security situation remains tenuous, the Ministry emphasizes that not all Finns may have registered with travel notifications, suggesting that the actual number of nationals in these areas could be higher and that additional safety measures may be warranted for those who have not registered their presence with the consulate.
