Texas college student identified among victims in Austin bar shooting probed as possible terror attack
A Texas college student was among the victims in a deadly shooting at a bar in Austin, with authorities investigating the incident as a possible terrorist attack.
Ryder Harrington, a student at Texas Tech University, was tragically killed in a shooting at Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden in Austin, Texas. The shooting, which occurred just after 2 a.m. on Sunday, involved a suspect identified as Ndiaga Diagne, who is a 53-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Senegal. The shooting resulted in the death of Harrington and one other victim, while 14 others were injured at the crowded nightlife location near the University of Texas.
The fraternity Beta Theta Pi, of which Harrington was a member, created a GoFundMe page to honor his memory, describing him as a "beloved son, brother, and friend" whose spirit made a significant impact on those around him. The establishment was popular with college students, and the violence that unfolded has sparked a heightened concern regarding safety in social settings, particularly in areas frequented by young adults.
Authorities, led by Police Chief Lisa Davis, detailed that the assailant began indiscriminately firing from his vehicle with a pistol. With the investigation labeling this as a possible terror attack, it raises serious questions about public safety and the motives behind such violent acts, particularly in college towns that often have vibrant nightlife, making them vulnerable to such incidents. The community is grieving the loss of Harrington while also rallying for stronger protective measures to prevent future tragedies in similar environments.
