The shooting took place around 2 a.m. in front of Buford's Backyard Beer Garden, located on Sixth Street, an area notorious for its nightlife and proximity to the University of Texas at Austin. The FBI has since declared that it is investigating the incident as a possible act of terrorism, raising concerns about the safety of nightlife areas across the country.
The suspect has been identified as Ndiaga Diagne, a 53-year-old American citizen of Senegalese origin. Diagne entered the United States in 2000 on a tourist visa and later became a permanent resident after marrying a U.S. citizen, achieving naturalization in 2013. At the time of the shooting, he was reportedly wearing a sweatshirt with
