The discovery raised alarm, leading the local fire department to be called in to recover the bones from the water and mud. According to the police, the remains were significantly decomposed, and only the lower part of the body, from the trunk to the thighs, was recovered. Delegado Carlos Eduardo Mazurek noted that further forensic investigations would be necessary to determine the age, sex, and possible date of death of the individual. In a related matter, shortly after the initial discovery, additional police action was taken in a nearby area known as Congós, where a head was located a few hours later.
