On Sunday afternoon, six inmates escaped from the Manoel Neri da Silva Prison in Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre, by exploiting the visiting hours of another block and a torrential downpour that occurred in the municipality. The prison's director, Elves Barros, provided details on Monday regarding the escape, identifying the circumstances that allowed it to happen and reiterating the ongoing efforts by various law enforcement agencies to capture the fugitives.

Anderson Galvão da Silva, one of the escapees, was recaptured shortly after the incident, but five other inmates remain at large.
