On Sunday, six prisoners escaped from the Manoel Neri da Silva Penal Establishment in Cruzeiro do Sul, located in the Brazilian state of Acre. The escape was confirmed by the Acre Penitentiary Administration Institute (Iapen-AC) at around 1:30 PM, although details surrounding the methods used for the escape were not disclosed. As soon as the escape was detected, prison security teams launched an urgent operation to locate and recapture the fleeing inmates.

The president of Iapen, Marcos Frank, reported that security forces, including the Penal Police and specialized groups, were mobilized immediately to initiate a recapture operation. The identities of the escaped prisoners were released, highlighting individuals such as Tiago Gomes da Silva and Messias Cavalcante Pedrosa among others. Their swift escape has raised concerns about security protocols within the facility and the potential for future incidents.
