Estonian Working in Dubai: Drone Fell Near Home

Estonians describe the impact of rocket and drone attacks near Dubai on their daily lives, with entertainment closed and movement restricted.

The ongoing conflict has had a significant impact on the daily lives of Estonians living near Dubai, as they face restrictions due to drone and rocket attacks. Entertainment venues have shut down, and movement has been limited, forcing tourists to remain in their hotels during attacks. The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises citizens to remain calm and wait for airspace to reopen.

Aare Raam, who has been directing business development and sales at the Peikko factory near Dubai since 2023, expressed difficulties in focusing on work amidst the ongoing situation. While his residence is located about 150 meters from where a drone landed, he reported constant explosions in the distance, adding to his anxiety. Though factories, shops, and offices continue to operate in his area, entertainment facilities are closed and construction work has been halted, affecting the local economy and social activities.

Raam emphasized the international nature of his workplace, where colleagues come from various countries. Many of them are now working from home due to government advisories to limit outdoor movement. The community's resilience is being tested as they navigate this crisis, balancing work commitments with personal safety amid an unpredictable environment.
