They took advantage of a vehicular accident to rob a commercial establishment: losses between $800 and $1,000
A robbery occurred at a business in Ecuador following a vehicular accident that compromised the establishment's security.
In the early hours of the morning, a robbery took place at a lunch establishment located between Avenida Quito and Calle Hurtado, where a van crashed into one of the metal doors, causing structural damage and leaving the entrance partially ajar. Witnesses reported that after the impact, the driver fled the scene but was later apprehended near his residence following a police chase. The situation escalated quickly as the damaged door allowed thieves to break into the restaurant during the night.
Once inside, the robbers stole essential items such as two gas tanks, a blender, and cash amounting to between $800 and $1000. The business owner speculated that the individuals behind the theft might be 'recyclers' and expressed frustration over the financial losses incurred. He was alerted to the crime by the National Police, who managed to detain the suspects after tracking one of them through a phone number found at the crime scene.
This incident highlights issues of safety and security for small business owners in Ecuador, particularly in areas where vehicular accidents could inadvertently aid criminal activities. It raises concerns about the effectiveness of law enforcement in preventing such crimes and ensuring the protection of local businesses, underscoring a broader need for community vigilance and stronger police presence in vulnerable neighborhoods.
