Launch of ‘Pink Saheli Card’ in Delhi! Women and Transgenders to Get Free Travel in Buses

The Delhi government has launched the 'Pink Saheli Card' to provide free bus travel for women and transgender individuals, streamlining the process of obtaining travel passes.

In a significant initiative for women's empowerment and support for the transgender community, the Delhi government has introduced the 'Pink Saheli Card' which allows for free travel on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses and Metro services. This smart card aims to eliminate the complexities associated with acquiring the previous paper-based tickets, making it easier for eligible individuals to commute without any cost. The launch event was graced by President Droupadi Murmu, underscoring the importance of the scheme at a formal occasion.

The 'Pink Saheli Card' will be available for free, removing any financial barrier for applicants. To facilitate easy access and card issuance, around 50 centers will be established across various locations in Delhi, including district magistrate and sub-divisional magistrate offices, as well as selected DTC locations. The program aims to empower women and transgender individuals by providing them with hassle-free public transportation options, promoting mobility and independence in their daily lives.

To ensure security and accurate identification, each card will be linked with the beneficiary's Aadhaar card and mobile number, establishing a reliable system for verification and preventing misuse of the card. This initiative not only enhances access to public transportation but also highlights Delhi's commitment to inclusivity and support for marginalized communities, paving the way for similar programs in other regions across India.
