LIVE: I won't be friends with you, or how to teach a child empathy towards others

The event focuses on teaching children empathy through interactions, as part of Latvia's Mental Health Week.

Latvia's Mental Health Week, titled "Runā ar mani" (Talk to Me), engages children and parents in discussions about mental health, emphasizing the importance of empathy. This year's event features clinical psychologist Aija Krišjāni, who will discuss how children learn empathy through both friendships and conflicts. The sessions aim to illustrate that conflict is not the end of the world, and meaningful relationships can be developed through effective communication and understanding.

Scheduled for March 2-8, the sixth Mental Health Week provides resources for parents and caregivers to understand children's mental health better. It aims to educate them on the significance of emotional health and the development of empathy in children. The programs include online discussions and insights into various mental health resources available in Latvia, facilitating open conversations about emotional well-being.

Organized by the association "Debesmanna," the event offers free online sessions available through their Facebook and Instagram profiles. The initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of mental health and the need for accessible support, recognizing that parents and caregivers play crucial roles in fostering empathetic relationships among children. Such community efforts not only provide education but also foster a culture of understanding and connection in addressing mental health issues.
