Klaipeda firefighters rushed to extinguish a burning ship in the city center
Firefighters in Klaipeda responded swiftly to extinguish a fire on a ship located in the city's center, which was caused by electrical wires.
On the night of March 2nd, the Klaipeda Fire and Rescue Department received an urgent call about a fire that broke out in the city center, specifically near the banks of the Danė River. Firefighters were dispatched shortly after midnight and arrived at the scene around 00:49. The fire was reported to have started on a ship docked at Danės Street, where electrical wires had ignited, posing potential risks to both the vessel and nearby infrastructure.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire was primarily due to an electrical cable that had caught fire from a terminal at the riverbank. However, the responsive firefighting team was able to extinguish the flames within minutes using a powder extinguisher, highlighting their training and readiness for emergency situations. The fire was completely put out within about an hour, marking a successful and quick intervention by the firefighters.
Fortunately, the outcome was largely positive as the fire only resulted in the burning of the electrical cable with no damage to the ship or electrical terminal. Firefighters remained on site until workers from the Energy Distribution Operator (ESO) arrived, ensuring that the area was secure and monitoring any potential hazards. This incident underscores the efficiency of local emergency services in managing fire risks in urban settings.
