How Generation Z Approaches Traditional Values. A Significant Difference Compared to Older Generations
A recent survey shows that the majority of Poles, particularly older generations, view traditional values positively, while a notable portion of Generation Z expresses skepticism or neutrality towards these values.
A recent survey conducted by the National Polish American Foundation revealed that 68.14% of Poles have a positive perception of 'traditional values', with only 11.6% opposing the concept and 20.2% remaining undecided. Among the youngest group of respondents aged 18-29, 72.3% hold positive associations with traditional values, which indicates a general appreciation for these concepts among younger Poles. However, the survey highlights notable differences in attitudes toward traditional values between generations.
For Generation Z, while a majority might view traditional values positively, a significant portion, specifically 12.7%, expresses disagreement with these values, and 15.2% assess them neutrally. In stark contrast, individuals aged 60-69 show more favorable attitudes, with 63.7% positively associating with traditional values. This generational divide suggests that younger people are not necessarily seeking radical ideological changes but instead are looking for solid ground amid the complexities of a changing world.
The president of the National Polish American Foundation, Piotr Nowocień, commented on these findings, suggesting that the younger generation's conservative stance could also be considered a reaction against the progressive views often promoted by mainstream society. This indicates a potential cultural shift where the youth are wrestling with their identity in relation to traditional norms, thus sparking a broader societal conversation regarding values and beliefs in modern Poland.
