Premiere: Achieving goals in several areas will be very complicated
Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa presents a report to the Saeima indicating that over half of the targets set in the National Development Plan 2021-2027 are either implemented or positively progressing, amidst challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
In a recent report presented to the Saeima, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa highlighted that achieving the targets outlined in the National Development Plan 2021-2027 (NAP 2027) has been complex, especially following the significant disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The report detailed that while more than half of the set goals have been realized or are positively progressing towards completion, the pandemic has severely affected the nation's development and societal welfare, heavily impacting the realization of many planned initiatives.
Moreover, the report addresses the additional challenges posed by the geopolitical tensions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, which have not only shaken Europe but have also created a new geopolitical dynamic that directly affects Latvia. Siliņa noted the hostile rhetoric from Russia towards the Baltic States, the European Union, and the Western world, emphasizing that these external factors have profound implications for Latvia’s national security and stability.
Siliņa's report strongly indicates that the ongoing geopolitical and economic challenges significantly influence public sentiment, economic activity, and foreign economic relations in Latvia. As such, navigating the path set by NAP 2027 has become increasingly fraught with difficulties, necessitating strategic adjustments to meet the goals under constrained circumstances.
